APPLE KILLED THE CD.

While Apple didn’t give a ton of details yet, it appears that this store will work pretty much just as their App Store does on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. There will be free and paid apps. There will be one-click downloads. There will be automatic updates. All that.

What there won’t be are any optical discs.

SCC ULTIMATE AERO II.

Designed by Jason Castriota of Bertone and Pininfarina fame, the next-generation SSC Ultimate Aero II has the ambitious milestone of 275 miles per hour in its sights. Its power-to-weight ratio, thanks in part to carbon fiber and aluminum construction, is nearly double that of the Veyron. And with a 6.8-liter twin-turbo V8 packing 1350 horsepower, its output is higher while using half the cylinders and turbochargers of its European rival. This ought to be good. But don’t like it too much, as the price tag is expected to come in around $970,000.

ART MADE FROM PRESCRIPTION PILL BOTTLES.

To create this work, thousands of empty prescription pill bottles were collected from nursing homes, pharmacies and individuals’ medicine cabinets. Like stalactites and stalagmites, the constructions hang down from above and grow upwards from the floor below. Chemical Balance speaks to our culture’s over-consumption of prescription drugs and our bodies’ dependency on these medications. The piece acts like a group portrait, mapping our society’s chemical intake. The illuminated structures radiate with an intense orange glow, suggesting that issues of health reach far beyond the physical.
